Bay Athletic pipped for second after defeat
4:50pm Thursday 17th May 2012 in County Am By Philip Rhodes
Bay Athletic missed a chance to clinch the runners-up spot when they lost their final West Riding County Amateur League match of the season 1-0 at Littletown.
The result means that Kirkburton finish second in the Premier Division behind Ovenden West Riding, with Bay – champions for the last four seasons – only fourth and Tyersal third.
Littletown had secured their top-flight status earlier in the week with a a 9-0 romp at home to already-doomed Wibsey.
This meant Littletown finished four places off the bottom and pushed Lower Hopton into the second relegation berth.
The season concludes on Saturday as Ovenden take on Bay in the Premier Division Cup final at Overthorpe FC (2.30pm).
Both sides have already lifted two pieces of silverware this season, with Ovenden adding the Halifax FA Challenge Cup to their Premier Division crown and Bay winning the Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup and the Association of Northern Counties Senior Cup.
MIDWEEK RESULTS – Premier Division: Golcar Utd 2 (J Robertson, L James), Marsden 2 (J Newiss, L Conheeney); Littletown 1 (S Bube), Bay Athletic 0. Division Two: Lepton Highlanders 2 (L Coughlan, A Flynn), Tingley Athletic 0.
