Runners-up finish still up for grabs

Just six West Riding County Amateur League matches remain to be played and there are still two key Premier Division outcomes to be decided.

Bay Athletic, champions for the past four seasons, could miss out on even a runners-up finish this time after losing 3-2 to Huddersfield neighbours Storthes Hall.

Kirkburton are currently in pole position to take second place behind Ovenden West Riding and, having completed their fixtures, can only be denied if fourth-placed Bay win both games in hand.

Campion complete their programme with a trip to Brighouse Town on Thursday evening, with the hosts still in danger of filling the second relegation position.

Town are currently third from bottom, two points above Littletown and four clear of basement side Wibsey, after slipping up 3-1 at home to Hall Green United.

Wibsey are doomed with just one game to play but Brighouse and Littletown have two matches each to save themselves.

Hunsworth, who were relegated after only one season in the top flight at the end of last season, failed to bounce straight back from Division One as they could only finish fourth despite beating Tingley Athletic 3-0 in their final fixture.

Rawdon Old Boys ended their season on a high in Division Two with a 6-2 victory at Steeton Reserves.

This left them fourth, level on 28 points with third-placed Huddersfield YMCA and Tyersal Reserves one place below them.
