STEETON missed a golden opportunity to close in on the West Riding County Amateur League high-fliers as they drew 2-2 against struggling Lepton Highlanders.

A win would have lifted Steeton level on points with fourth-placed Campion and within touching distance of Golcar United and Route One Rovers, in second and third respectively.

Instead they returned from Huddersfield with just a single point as goals by Tom Sowerbutts, in the first minute, and Ben Clarkson were cancelled out by a James Cusworth double for the hosts.

Another Premier Division contest also finished level as Wibsey and Britannia Sports drew 3-3.

Jack Murphy, Daniel O'Donnell and Jordon Northin netted for Wibsey but replies came from Josh Cayenne, Alex Pearson and Nicky Kitson.

Meanwhile, defending champions Lower Hopton picked up only their second victory of the season as a 4-2 success saw opponents Wakefield City slip to the foot of the table.

Match-day signings Liam Oliver (2) and Alex Barnes were among the goals for Hopton, with Adam Brown completing the tally. Rob Bloomfield and Ryan Southward responded for the beaten visitors.

Hunsworth's poor home form continued in Division One as they slipped to a third consecutive setback on their own ground.

Liam Gowan scored their only goal as visitors Tingley Athletic, who are just above second-bottom Hunsworth in the table, returned home with a 4-1 victory under their belts.

Just one point from their last four league games has seen West Horton slip down the table to fourth from bottom, their latest setback being a 3-2 defeat at mid-table Overthorpe.

Salts Reserves slipped to their first defeat of the season as visiting Golcar United Reserves won 4-0 thanks to goals by Gavin Armitage (2), Toby Farrington and Kiran Brown.

Steeton Reserves and Huddersfield side Unita shared eight goals with a 4-4 draw, while TVR United beat rock-bottom Bradford FC 6-3.

* THE West Riding County Amateurs' venture into the FA Inter-League Cup ended with a 2-1 defeat away to the York League at Tadcaster Albion in the first round.

The hosts took an early advantage with two goals in the first 15 minutes. Chris Dyson netted after only two minutes before Scott Nichols added from the penalty spot after Adam Jordan had handled the ball.

The County Amateurs pulled one back in the second half through Matthew Bugg of Littletown but were unable to overcome their early setback.
