LOWER Hopton are celebrating after being crowned West Riding County Amateur League winners for the first time after 49 seasons in the competition.
A crowd in excess of 350 at their Woodend Road ground watched as Hopton gained the single point they needed to finish top of the Premier Division table with a 1-1 draw against second-placed Newsome.
The visitors made the initial breakthrough after 20 minutes through Steven Marshall but Hopton equalised midway through the second half when awarded a penalty, which was converted by Anthony Brown.
Lepton Highlanders, who were runners-up last season to Huddersfield YMCA, will finish sixth this time after beating second-bottom DRAM Community 5-0. Gary Bradley and Jonathon Bullivant both scored twice to add to James Keenan's opener.
Thornton United moved to within touching distance of the Division One title after beating sixth-placed Golcar United Reserves 5-1, with Marcus Edwards netting four times and Danny Walker completing the tally.
Wakefield City are second, two points behind Thornton having played a game more, after beating Steeton Reserves 4-0 courtesy of goals by Rob Bloomfield, Nash Connolly, Paul Gibbons and Oliver Rawson.
Route One Rovers are third after drawing 2-2 at Holmfirth Town.
The Premier Division Cup final between Littletown and Golcar United will be played at Brighouse Town this coming Saturday (2.30pm).
