ONE top clash in Division One of the Taylor's Timber West Riding County Amateur League was abandoned.

There were two pitch invasions in the match between Thornton United and leaders Route One Rovers at Thornton Recreation Centre before the referee had seen enough.

The West Riding County FA will rule on the abandonment before passing the matter to the league's management committee.

Meanwhile, Wakefield City climbed into third place, and closer to promotion, as they beat second-placed Holmfirth Town 4-2.

West Horton won by the same score against Britannia Sports, while Steeton Reserves and Golcar United Reserves – who have still to meet each other in the Division One Cup semi-final – earned a point each after a 1-1 draw.

The race for the Premier Division championship is still wide open as all the contenders posted victories.

Mirfield-based Lower Hopton held on to top spot, with goals by Nathan James, Nathan Alexander, Daniel Steele and Anthony Brown giving them a 4-0 home victory against Lepton Highlanders.

Newsome remain a point behind in second after trouncing second-bottom DRAM Community 6-0, with Steve Marshall, Paul Pyke, Kitson Gayle, Nico McMahon, Joel Bryce and Adam Hill on target.

Littletown stayed third after two goals from George Porter and one by Joe Jagger earned them a 3-0 win at Campion.

Steeton kept alive their hopes of finishing in the top two with a 4-3 victory at Honley.

The visitors fell behind to an early goal from Danny Lorryman before strikes by Steve Pearson, Olly Hunter and Graham Holmes gave them a 3-1 interval advantage.

Alex Yates made it 4-1 in the second half, only for Mat Sykes and James Clapham to reduce the arrears to leave the Keighley side hanging on for their victory.

Golcar United, who were leaders earlier in the season, have now slipped out of contention for a top-two place but ended visitors Salts' campaign with a 7-1 defeat.

Jordan Tindle (4), Mat Bryan (2) and Simon Thompson netted for Golcar, with Jonny Cunnington claiming a first-half reply for Salts.

Salts Reserves, who had already secured runners-up spot behind champions TVR United in Division Two, ended their season with a 5-0 defeat at third-placed Bradford FC.
