RAIN and snow meant only six of the scheduled games involving West Riding County Amateur League teams went ahead as planned on Saturday – but they included a big shock.

Salts crashed out of the Bradford & District FA Challenge Cup 6-4 at home to Thornton United Reserves in their quarter-final tie.

It was a below-par display by fourth-placed Premier Division side Salts as their mid-table Division Two opponents got the upper hand.

Elliott Holmes (2), Brendan Folan, Jordan Nurse, Ross Parr and Lewis Goldsborough netted for Thornton as they outscored Jamie Birchall, Leroy White, Lewis Clavin and Jonny Cunnington.

Division One high-fliers Wakefield City secured a semi-final place in the Wakefield & District FA Challenge Cup with a 3-2 victory over Wakefield League side Eastmoor.

Two Huddersfield & District FA Challenge Cup ties saw Lepton Highlanders overwhelm Meltham Athletic 8-1 but Holmfirth Town were edged out 2-1 at Scholes.

All other postponed District Cup ties have been rearranged for Saturday, December 17.

League action saw a couple of matches escape the weather in Division Two thanks to being played on artificial surfaces.

Leaders Salts Reserves and second-placed TVR United, who were both unbeaten before the start, went head to head at the Zara Centre, with TVR running out convincing 6-1 winners.

There were two goals each for Asif Iqbal and Faisal Shabir, with Abid Khan and Danayal Nassar completing the tally as TVR closed the gap at the summit to two points with a game in hand.

It was the same score as third-placed Bradford FC saw off Littletown Reserves, who are fourth, thanks to a Mark Wilcox hat-trick, supported by Jamie Sugden, Hasan Khan and Ali Faisal.
