THERE were mixed fortunes for the Taylors Timber West Riding County Amateur League sides in Round One of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

Only six teams were successful from the 13 games the league sides were involved in.

Steeton booked their place in the second phase of the competition with Andy Holden Lee Reilly and Ben Clarkson scoring in their 3-2 success at West Yorkshire League side Altofts.

Mirfield-based Lower Hopton dented Craven League side Crosshills hopes of progress with a 4-1 victory.

Lee McKeown grabbed two goals and Nathan Alexander and Liam Reilly were also on target, with Rob Mathews netting Crosshills’ consolation.

Littletown edged through their tie at fellow Premier Division side Honley, with Joe Jagger and Callum Wheatley scoring in their 2-1 success.

Huddersfield YMCA came out on top with a narrow 6-5 victory against Halifax League side Sowerby Bridge.

Kitson Gayle grabbed four and Carl Aitken claimed a brace for YMCA.

Division One leaders Britannia Sports accounted for Yorkshire Amateur League side Trinity and all Saints Old Boys 5-0 with Nicholas Kitson leading the way with a hat-trick.

Division Two side Tingley Athletic beat Silsden Reserves 1-0.

Halifax Irish lost out by 4-3 in extra time against Brighouse Towns Development side, while Premier Division sides Golcar United were defeated 6-2 at Driglington.

Lepton Highlanders went down 5-2 at home to Rawdon Old Boys, Newsome were trounced 7-1 at home to Wyke Wanderers, Overthorpe’s game at Grassington ended 1-1 before the home side progressed with a 3-0 win on penalties.

Division One side Ventus Yeadon Celtic entertained Craven League Side Settle United, but had only a Terry Hargreaves goal in the second half to show in their 4-1 defeat.

Westbrook YMCA took the short trip from their Horsforth ground to Alwoodley, only to lose 4-1.

Dram Community FC Reserves and Steeton Reserves progressed from Round One of the West Riding County FA Challenge Troph.

Dram beat Bird in Hand 2-1 with Darius Mathewson scoring their goals, while Steeton Reserves beat Wetherby Athletic Reserves 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the game ended 1-1 after normal time.

Tyersal Reserves and West Horton were both beaten, Tyersal losing 3-2 at Drighlington Reserves, while West Horton, despite a hat-trick from Sheraz Mahmood, losing 4-3 to Settle United’s Reserves.

There were goals galore in the Taylors Timber Division One with four games bringing 33 goals in total.

Wibsey and Holmfirth Town shared ten with a 5-5 draw, Callum Armstrong with three, to add to one each from Daniel O’Donnell and Adam Cronin scoring for Wibsey.

Thornton United were edged out of the points as visitors Wakefield City won 5-4 to move up into second place Churwell Lions picked up their second successive victory with a 4-2 home win over Tyersal with Luke Ambler netting three times.

Route One Rovers went down 6-2 at home at to Golcar United Reserves.

Salts Reserves stay unbeaten at the top of Division Two their 3-0 win at Littletown Reserves, with two goals from Harry Naylor, and one from Jamie Birchall.

TVR United, who have played one game fewer than Salts, are in second place after edging out visitors Lower Hopton 8-5.

Bradford FA beat Thornton United Reserves 7-3 to stay in third place.
