SALTS kicked off the new West Riding County Amateur League campaign with an impressive 3-1 home win over last season's runners-up Lepton Highlanders.

Adam Hartley, Matt Bailey and Tom Hickey netted for the Bradford side, while Liam Coughlin bagged the Huddersfield visitors' response with a penalty in the Premier Division opener.

Steeton had to come from a goal behind at half-time on their trip to promoted Overthorpe SC to win 2-1.

Hunsworth, who failed to pick up a league win in the Premier Division last season, took maximum points with a 2-1 home success over Division One newcomers Churwell Lions. Chas Taylor and Dominic Haworth scored for Hunsworth, with Pride Chikosha on target for the visitors.

Tyersal, who were relegated alongside Hunsworth, had only a Liam Moore second-half strike to show for their efforts at Wakefield City, who had two Rob Bloomfield goals to add to others from John Penn and Brett James in a 4-1 victory.

Promoted Thornton United were the league's highest scorers in the opening day's fixtures with an 8-1 home success over Ventus-Yeadon Celtic.

Danny Walker, Ryan Stubbs and Emmott Paul-Gallagher all netted twice, with John Selby and Marcus Davey also on the mark, while Michael Braime grabbed the visitors' lone first-half reply.

West Horton kicked off with a 2-1 home win against Route One Rovers thanks to goals by Lee Smith and Marcus Harper.

Newcomers Britannia Sports opened with a 2-0 win at Westbrook YMCA, while Steeton Reserves and Wibsey shared four goals in a 2-2 draw – as did Huddersfield sides Golcar United Reserves and Holmfirth Town.
