HEAVY rain on Friday night and Saturday surprisingly caused only four scheduled West Riding County Amateur League games to be postponed prior to kick-off – although another two games had to be abandoned due to the conditions and bad light.

Salts extended their run of victories away from home in the Taylor's Timber Premier Division to six with a 4-2 success at Lower Hopton.

There were two goals from Kyle Berry and one each by Jonny Cunnington and George Hicks, while Liam Royal and Simeon Fletcher replied for the Mirfield-based side.

Steeton travelled to Lepton Highlanders and were swept aside as the second-placed side netted six times.

Jonathan Bullivant scored three, Gary Bradley weighed in with two and substitute Ricardo Ianzito also found the net, with Lee Reilly claiming Steeton's reply in the first half.

Tyersal picked up only their third league victory of the season as visitors Kirkburton were beaten 3-2.

Goals from Jordan Tindle and Richard Kettlewell gave Kirkburton the edge before Jonathon Burgess reduced the arrears for Tyersal, with second-half strikes by Jamie Sugden and Danny Farrar then securing victory.

A second-half goal from Gareth Wright was of little consolation as his Hunsworth side slumped to another defeat when they lost 6-1 at Ovenden West Riding, with George Bamforth scoring four of the Halifax side's goals.

Littletown's ground staff worked hard to ensure that their home game with Golcar United started. But their efforts were in vain after the match referee called a halt early in the second half with Golcar leading 1-0 as the heavy rain made playing impossible.

With the rain causing Division One leaders Newsome at Steeton Reserves, and third-placed DRAM Community FC away to Holmfirth Town, to be postponed, second-placed Honley were unable to take top spot.

They lost 3-0 at Campion Reserves as home debutant Craig Nicholls netted twice, with Chris Helliwell also on target.

Overthorpe SC moved up to third place ahead of DRAM after two goals from Jordan Angus, and others by Jack Allerton, James Wilson, Jake Harrison, Reece Patterson and Steve Jordan, gave them a 7-0 victory at Wibsey.

Westbrook YMCA – who, like Wibsey, were without a league victory – left last season's champions Wakefield City reeling as Jarid Robson and Ian Craig, with four goals each, earned the Leeds side an 8-2 victory.

Ventus-Yeadon Celtic moved up into fifth place above opponents West Horton as they ran out 6-2 victors on a rain-swept Myra Shay.

With Division Two leaders Golcar United not playing after their home game with Littletown Reserves was called off, Thornton United took advantage to close the gap to two points.

They beat TVR United 4-1 with two goals from Danny Walker and one each by Graeme Sides and Deroy White.

Bradford FC also picked up a welcome three points as goals from Abdullah Ahmed and Mujtahid Malik overcame Lower Hopton Reserves 2-1.

Route One Rovers were leading Salts Reserves 4-2 when the referee decided it was too dark to carry on and abandoned the game with 20 minutes of the second half left to play.
