LITTLETOWN led the goal rush as the Taylors Timber Centre West Riding County Amateur League season got underway.

The Heckmondwike-based Premier Division team put 12 past East Bierley side Hunsworth without reply but there were only three scorers, Lee McKeown hitting five, Matthew Bugg four and George Porter three.

A total of 56 goals were scored in the 12 games, and Campion played their part with a 4-1 victory at Kirkburton, thanks to a Jahsiah Donaldson brace and efforts from Adam Jarrett and Elliott Holmes, Marcus Paul replying.

After last season’s champions Bay Athletic folded, most of the team joined Huddersfield YMCA, and they gave notice that it will be business as usual as they cruised past Tyersal 5-1, Daniel Naidole (3), Wayne Shooter and John McAliskey netting with John Day getting a late consolation.

Meanwhile, Steeton gave themselves a boost as two goals from Nicholas McNally and a Lee Reilly penalty gave them a 3-0 home win over Golcar United, last season’s runners-up.

Salts had Sam Waterhouse, Tom Hickey and Chris McTigue on target as they hit the winning trail with a 3-2 win at top-flight newcomers Dudley Hill Rangers, while the two Halifax-based sides had mixed fortunes.

Halifax Irish left Lower Hopton with a 5-0 victory but Ovenden West Riding, who lost key players during the summer to higher-level football, were short of finishers and lost 1-0 at newly-promoted Lepton Highlanders.

There was no opening-day joy for Bradford sides in Division One as Wibsey only had a second-half strike from Lewis Phillips to show for their efforts at home to Huddersfield-based DRAM Community, who won 3-1, while West Horton kicked off their campaign by losing 2-0 against Honley.

Ventus Yeadon Celtic travelled to Wakefield City and were beaten 1-0 by a Ryan Southward second-half strike, while newcomers Newsome started life with a 5-1 victory at Overthorpe.
