ALTHOUGH their three Premier Division title rivals – including Campion – all won, Golcar United have taken a step closer to lifting the West Riding County Amateur League trophy for only the second time.

United notched a 2-1 victory at Steeton, with John McAliskey and Callum Meade scoring for Golcar before Arley Barnes netted a late consolation.

Campion had Steve Hollingworth and Omar Habeeb on target with two goals apiece as they beat Kirkburton 4-2, while fellow contenders Bay Athletic and Ovenden West Riding also triumphed.

Bay accounted for Lower Hopton, with strikes from Steve Smith, Simeon Fletcher and Wayne Shooter in their 3-0 victory.

And Ovenden had two goals from John Booth and one by Carlton Pownall in the first half to secure a 3-0 home win over Salts.

Tyersal stay rooted to the bottom after hosts Hunsworth eased their relegation fears with a 5-1 victory, Dale Wright netting four of the goals. Heckmondwike-based Littletown picked up a valuable point with a 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Huddersfield YMCA, while Halifax Irish – who have only four games to play – slipped to third from bottom after losing 6-1 at Storthes Hall.

Division One leaders Dudley Hill Rangers' promotion challenge took a knock when they lost 3-2 against Bradford Horton Sports on the 4G pitch at Bradford Academy.

Rob McDonald (2) and Shezad Iqbal netted for Sports, while Nico Carruccio and Danny Softley were on target for Rangers.

Wakefield City moved level on points with second-placed Ventus-Yeadon Celtic after a 3-1 home victory against Steeton Reserves, with Rob Bloomfield (2) and Aaron Hurst scoring for City and Greg Hudson getting the consolation.

Wibsey missed the chance to move up to fourth place after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Westbrook YMCA.

The clash of the bottom two sides – DRAM Community and Campion Reserves – conclusively went the way of the Huddersfield outfit, who won 7-1.

After posting a record 27 goals without reply the previous weekend, Division Two leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys were brought back to earth with a bang when they lost for only the second time this season.

Fellow league newcomers Honley stepped up their promotion challenge with a 2-1 victory as John Elliott and Oliver Willetts netted in the first half before Jack Kirk scored a late consolation for the Old Boys.

Salts Reserves and Bradford FC shared six goals in a 3-3 draw. Ryan Boguslawski, Ryan Whitfield and Andy Howland scored for Salts, while Faisal Ali (2) and Subhan Rajas responded for Bradford.
