SALTS are through to the semi-finals of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup – but they needed an extra-time penalty to see off West Yorkshire League Premier Division hosts Boroughbridge.

Skipper Joe Pleasance converted the spot-kick for the West Riding County Amateur League visitors after they had twice been behind.

Martin Hutchinson, after 20 minutes, and Danny Rimmell, after 55, had given the North Yorkshire club the lead, with Jonny Cunnington and Pleasance replying either side of half-time, the latter direct from a corner.

There was also joy in the West Riding County FA Trophy, where Division Two outfit Honley made it into the last four with a 2-1 victory over fellow Huddersfield side Kirkheaton Rovers, Danny Knutton and James Elliott – again in extra-time – netting for the winners.

County cups apart, the County Amateurs managed a full league programme for the first time this year, Campion adapting better to their heavy Manningham Mills pitch than Halifax Irish, with Steve Hollingworth giving a stellar performance in netting all five goals without reply.

Ovenden West Riding also notched a 5-0 home win over Steeton, with all the goals – from John Booth, Andrew Bailey, Steve Fullard, Steve Senior and Jay Carney – coming in the second half.

Tyersal, who are desperate for points to avoid dropping into Division One, failed to hold onto their 2-1 advantage at home to Lower Hopton, ending up with a point. Fortunately for Tyersal, rivals Hunsworth, who were four points clear at the start of play, lost 3-1 at Kirkburton.

Littletown, with games in hand on the three sides behind them, were held to a 2-2 draw at home by fellow strugglers Huddersfield YMCA.

Leaders Golcar United continued their charge towards the championship with their 15th victory from 16 games – 4-2 at Storthes Hall, with Callum Meade bagging a hat trick.

Ventus Yeadon Celtic took advantage of Dudley Hill Rangers losing 2-1 at Lepton Highlanders and returned to the top of Division One after drawing 1-1 at Steeton Reserves. Kyle Shah scored for Ventus in the first half, with Josh Ferguson equalising.

Overthorpe Sports Club, with strikes from Lewis Ward, James Wilson and Sam Sweeney, beat Bradford Horton Sports 3-1 to maintain their promotion ambitions.

Wibsey travelled to second-bottom DRAM Community and also had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw, while Wakefield City booked their Division One Cup semi-final spot with a 10-2 home win over Campion Reserves, with Olly Rawson netting seven times to add to Rob Bloomfield's treble. Ashley Dutton scored both Campion's consolations.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys, who were the only team in the league not to have been beaten in a league fixture, surrendered that honour when goals from Dominic Scoon and Emanuel Jerome gave Division Two opponents Lower Hopton Reserves a 2-0 victory, while Bradford picked up a 6-0 home win over promotion candidates Littletown Reserves, Nick Walker bagging four goals and Sheraz Mahmood two.
