AFTER handing Premier Division leaders Golcar United their first West Riding County Amateur League defeat of the season the previous week 4-0, Campion were on form again to defeat Salts 3-0.

With both sides adapting well to the difficult conditions at Manningham Mills, it took Campion almost half an hour to break down the visitors' defence, Mark Betts escaping his markers to give the hosts the lead.

Salts were pushing for an equaliser in the second half, only for Campion to pull a masterstroke by sending on Jordan Missin, who netted twice to seal victory.

Tyersal gained a valuable point in their bid to pull away from the foot of the table – a 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Huddersfield YMCA.

Aaron Smith netted for the hosts, while YMCA had Mathew Tattersley on target.

Huddersfield-based Storthes Hall beat Lower Hopton 3-1 to stay third, while Halifax Irish remained in the lower half of the table after losing 2-0 at home to Kirkburton.

The rain and gale-force winds on Friday night into Saturday put many games into doubt but only three games involving teams in the top flight were postponed.

They were the Premier Division Cup quarter-final between Bay Athletic and holders Ovenden West Riding and the league games involving Steeton at home to Hunsworth and Golcar United against Littletown.

Ventus-Yeadon Celtic, who had been unbeaten in 11 Division One games, tasted defeat for the second successive Saturday when third-placed visitors Wakefield City – who are undefeated in the league since losing to Dudley Hill Rangers in August – returned home with a 3-1 win.

Ryan Firth gave Celtic an early lead before Andrew McManus, Aaron Hurst and Ryan Barker responded for the visitors.

Rangers stayed second, and moved to within two points of Ventus-Yeadon, with a 3-2 home victory over promotion rivals Overthorpe Sports Club.

Aaron Heywood (2) and Dominic Staunton netted for Rangers, with Sam Sweeney and Scott Minto replying.

Wibsey moved their home fixture against Campion Reserves to Thornton Recreation Centre's 3G facility, after their ground at Westwood Park was ruled out due to waterlogging, and the move proved fruitful.

Strikes from Danny O'Donnell (2), Phil Brogan, James Crosland and an own goal gave them a 5-3 victory, with Nathan Woodward (2) and Chris Helliwell replying for the second string.

Lepton Highlanders booked their place in the semi-finals of the Division One Cup with a 4-2 success at Thornes.

They will join Bradford Horton Sports, Overthorpe and either Wakefield City or Campion Reserves in the draw at the league's half-yearly meeting on Tuesday, February 3.
