AFTER six matches were called off the previous weekend, seven were victims of the weather in the latest round of West Riding County Amateur League fixtures on Saturday.

Among the early casualties were top Premier Division matches between leaders Golcar United and last season's champions, third-placed Ovenden West Riding, as well as Campion's trip to second-placed Bay Athletic.

Steeton's clash with local rivals Salts went their way, with Lee Reilly scoring a first-half penalty before Graham Holmes' second-half treble gave them a 4-0 victory and a psychological advantage before their West Riding County FA Challenge Cup meeting this coming weekend.

Littletown moved away from the lower reaches of the table with a 2-1 win at Halifax Irish, with Reece Pollard and Kurt Harris scoring second-half goals following Chris Ellerby's strike for Irish before the interval.

Tyersal's interest in cup competitions ended for the season as they lost 3-1 at Huddersfield YMCA in the quarter-finals of the Premier Division Cup.

Luke Cooke netted Tyersal's consolation after Joshua Williams (2) and Joshua Martin had secured YMCA's place in the last four.

Lower Hopton also booked a semi-final spot with a 5-0 victory at Kirkburton, with Lincoln Adams and Sylbert Stewart both scoring twice and Mat Mulvihill adding the fifth goal.

Ventus-Yeadon Celtic were due to host Thornes in Division One but a burst water tank rendered the changing rooms unuseable, so the game was switched to Thornes' ground in Wakefield.

Yet the late switch failed to stop Celtic from extending their unbeaten run of league fixtures to ten as goals from Adam Turner, Leroy McAjar, Ryan Firth and Terry Hargreaves gave them a 4-2 win, with Ben Long and Brendan Kane replying for Thornes.

Dudley Hill Rangers lost second place to Overthorpe SC when they slipped up 2-1 at the Dewsbury-based side.

But after three consecutive defeats, Wibsey picked up three points as Phil Brogan and Joe Brooksbank scored in their 2-0 defeat of Storthes Hall Reserves.

Bradford Horton Sports slipped to sixth after losing 3-1 at Wakefield City, with Usman Hussain scoring for Sports after Adam Hurst's brace and a Rob Bloomfield penalty had counted for the hosts.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys booked their place in the semi-finals of the Division Two Cup with a 9-2 home victory over Ovenden West Riding Reserves.

And in Division Two league action, a young Tyersal Reserves side were overwhelmed 19-0 by Hunslet & Parkside.

Salts Reserves remain bottom after losing out 4-3 at home to Golcar United Reserves.
