HEAVY overnight rain caused the postponement of six of the scheduled 18 matches in the West Riding County Amateur League, including Premier Division games at Tyersal and Salts.

However, Campion’s ground at Manningham Mills was playable, and first-half strikes from Omar Habeeb on 20 minutes and Liam Charles on 40 minutes proved sufficient to give Campion a 2-0 home victory over Huddersfield YMCA, though Campion had to defend in depth in the second half.

Steeton made hard work of their 2-1 home win against visitors Kirkburton.

Lee Reilly gave the hosts a first-half advantage but blazed over from the penalty spot early in the second half.

This miss spurred the visitors, who equalised through Steve Chandler before a late winner from Graham Holmes made up for Reilly’s penalty miss.

Hunsworth were put to the sword in the second half of their game at last season’s champions Ovenden West Riding.

Leading 4-0 at the interval, Ovenden took full advantage of Hunsworth being reduced to nine players early in the second period and won 12-0, with Steve Senior (3), Andy Bailey (2), John Booth (2) and Carlton Pownall (2) adding to Jay Carney, Hayden Kerris and Leon Hurles-Brook goals.

Leaders Golcar United reached the halfway stage of their season with a 13th successive win, this time 4-1 at home to Halifax Irish, John McAlskey (2), Dave Conway and Callum Meade, following his transfer earlier in the week from Irish, netting.

Ventus Yeadon Celtic retained their unbeaten start to Division One with a 4-4 draw at Lepton Highlanders but they were left hanging onto a point after letting a 3-1 half-time advantage slip.

Adam Turner (2), Kyle Shah and Leroy McAdjar scored for Celtic, with Josh Cook, Adam Bell, Nick Robinson and an own goal replying.

Dudley Hill Rangers moved to within five points of Ventus after beating visitors Westbrook YMCA 4-3 at East Bierley.

Roman Zurek and Jamie Sugden were both on target twice for Rangers, while Elliot Walker (2) and Faran Myamunda netted for YMCA.

Bradford Horton Sports moved into third after strikes from Paul Wood and Anil Singh gave them a 2-1 success at Storthes Hall Reserves, for whom Alex Slack bagged a consolation.

Three consecutive defeats have seen Wibsey slip out of contention for promotion, their latest slip up being by 4-3 at Overthorpe, while Steeton Reserves battled back from being 3-0 down at DRAM Community to draw 3-3.

In Division Two, Gildersome Spurs Old Boys extended their unbeaten start to eight games with a 4-1 home win over fellow new boys Hunslet & Parkside.

Gildersome now have an eight-point lead over second-placed Ovenden West Riding Reserves and Lower Hopton Reserves as both fell to defeat.

Ovenden lost 2-0 at home to Golcar United Reserves, with Lower Hopton slipping up 5-1 against Bay Athletic Reserves,
