Steeton made history tonight when they reached the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup final thanks to a 1-0 win over Goole United in their semi-final at Woodlesford.

Backed by a 200-plus Chevron Army, Steeton took the lead after 21 minutes. Graham Holmes was hauled down in the box and Michael Rhodes confidently dispatched the resulting penalty.

Danny McNulty then hit the post and Phil Rishton produced a couple of great saves as Steeton reached the county showpiece for the first time..

Their victory set up an all-Bradford district final at Elland Road with West Yorkshire League side Field on May 19.

Steeton travel to Storthes Hall in the West Riding County Amateur League on Saturday, while fellow Premier Division side Campion’s title credentials will be fully tested at leaders Ovenden West Riding.

The second-placed Bradford outfit trail Ovenden by five points and have played a game more but also have to face their Halifax opponents at home, so are not out of it yet.

Salts, who secured their top flight status last Saturday, entertain last season’s champions Bay Athletic, while Tyersal, who are still bidding to stay up themselves, have a trip to Huddersfield YMCA.

Two defeats in their last two Division One games have put the brakes on leaders Hunsworth’s title charge ahead of Saturday’s visit to Campion Reserves.
