Fairbank United’s five-a-side team continued their winning streak by clinching the GOALS FA Cup.
The T&A League champions, based in Girlington, cruised through to the semi-finals, where they were pushed all the way by Play Nice. It went to a penalty shootout, with Mohammed Shakeel emerging the hero, as the Fairbank keeper first saved, then converted the winning penalty.
Fairbank faced Vaj’s in the final. They boasted an undefeated record in the tournament and got off to a great start by scoring a wonder strike after two minutes.
Fairbank held their nerve and took the lead through strikes from Naveed Hussain and Adil Shezed.
A superb display from man-of-the-match Mazhar Iqbal caused Vaj’s all sorts of problems.
Veteran Akif Waseem curled a glorious free-kick into the top corner to increase the lead before Naveed Hussain hit home his second of the final.
A rugged rearguard action led by Babar Raheem kept Vaj’s from launching any sort of comeback as Fairbank secured a 4-1 victory.
