There will be a new name on the Telegraph & Argus League Cup when the final is played next month.

League debutants Thornbury Youth secured their spot when they beat table-toppers Fairbank on penalties at Rawdon Meadow.

They will be joined by established T&A club Lidget Green, who were more comfortable 3-0 winners over defending league champions Bradford All Stars.

Abdul Quyam had two penalties saved by Fairbank goalkeeper Usman Nawaz as the tie finished 3-3 after extra time but struck home Thornbury’s fourth spot-kick in the shoot-out.

Thornbury hit back after conceding goals to Ashiq Iqbal and Mohammed Jamil to make it 2-2 after normal time and then took the lead, only for Mohammed Ishmaeel to equalise in the last minute.

Phil Smith and Toseef Arshad (2) were on target in reply before their side held their nerve in the penalty finale.

The other semi-final was settled in normal time, although Lidget Green keeper Iltaf Ahmed had to be at his best to thwart All Stars.

He saved a penalty and made two other fine stops with the score at 2-0 as goals from Asis Chunera and Waheed Iqbal (2) settled the outcome.
