New Telegraph & Argus League club Thornbury Youth & Community Centre got their season off to a perfect start with a 3-0 victory over Ventnor Youth.
Thornbury dominated the first half and it was Shumeel Uddin who scored their first goal in competitive football with a well-taken finish.
Abdul Kiayin doubled their lead after the break and substitute Moail Auzer put the result beyond doubt with number three.
Lidget Green sent out a warning as they beat last season’s champions Bradford All Stars in convincing manner with a 3-1 home success.
Asif Chunara put them in front after 20 minutes only for the champions to equalise soon afterwards. Chunara then added his second to give the home team a 2-1 half-time advantage. Despite injuries to two players, Green took control and, after missing a penalty and twice hitting the woodwork, Naweed Iqbal sealed the points with a third goal.
In the Bowling derby, West took the lead after ten minutes but hosts East equalised soon afterwards through Peter Henson.
They took the lead five minutes later with a goal from the same player and, though West made it 2-2, Gareth Foley put the home side in front again before the interval.
Jason Slater extended East Bowling’s lead and Lee Ellwood completed the scoring to make it 5-2, despite them having a player dismissed for dissent.
Victory saw East gain revenge for the cup final defeat last season.
Fairbank visited Sporting Athletic and dominated the first half-hour to move three goals in front with two strikes from Mohammed Ismaeel and one from veteran striker Akif Waseem.
In the second half, the home team fought back and managed to hit two goals but they could not find the elusive equaliser.
