Calverley win to turn the corner in Yorkshire Amateur League

After a sequence of five defeats at the end of last season’s Yorkshire Amateur League, Calverley were delighted to beat last season’s relegated side Shire Academics 4-3 in Senior Division B.

Phil Gathercole was in superb form with all four goals for Calverley.

St Bede's triumphed 4-2 at home to Thornensians. A polished second-half display saw newcomer Jonathan Hicks, Danny Williamson and James Gilmartin add to the first-half goal of Dave Morley.

Luke Craven and Si McQuiston gave Farsley Celtic Juniors the lead against Old Centralians but a defensive slip salvaged a point for the visitors in a 2-2 Division One draw.

New club AFC Heckmondwike beat Gildersome Spurs Reserves 6-3, with Jamie Wasley firing five goals.

In Division Two, Sandal Wanderers were 7-3 winners against Gildersome Spurs III, while St Bede's Reserves lost 5-1 at home to Morley Town. The prolific Jordan Northin had given St Bede's a first-half lead.

Heckmondwike GSOB suffered a thumping 10-0 defeat against Beeston OB Reserves in Division Three.
