FARSLEY Celtic Juniors have booked themselves a Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield final against fellow Yorkshire Amateur League side Drighlington on Saturday, May 12 at the West Riding County FA's headquarters.

There were no goals in the opening stanza of Celts' semi-final against Redcar Newmarket at Pocklington Town but the former turned on the style in the second half.

Danny Lyons, starting for the first time in four months, put Farsley ahead in the 52nd minute, and Redcar, who are fifth in the North Riding League, were finished off by a Louis Surtees brace, which included a brave diving header.

In the league, Drighlington have moved to the top of the Premier Division after a 3-0 victory at St Nicholas.

Harvey Booth put the visitors ahead in the first half, Andy Punter got the second with a trademark header and Brett Thompson added a third, allowing Drig to rest some of their more important players.

Although Leeds Medics & Dentists are level on points with Drig, they have played four games more.

Athletico have establised a reputation for being involved in exciting games, and their 4-3 home defeat against Grangefield Old Boys was another example.

it was tough luck on Hassan Khan, who got a hat-trick for the losers, but his efforts were overhauled by Kristian Dacre, pacy 16-year-old Chris Barr (2) and Tom Micklethwaite.

Morley Town won 3-1 at Beeston Juniors, with goals from Ryan Hartley, Aidan Phillip and Ben Howarth.

Even more exciting than Athletico's game was St Bede's' 7-5 win over Calverley United in the Championship Division, but the Bradford hosts didn't need a comeback this week as they led 5-1.

However, United levelled at 5-5 by the hour before Bede's showed their character to triumph.

Andrew McHugh's 30-yard half-volley put Bede's ahead, and the second goal came from a rare source - Lewis Dean's mis-hit cross finding the top corner.

Jarad Peltier's penalty for Bede's made it 3-1, and Gary Sutherland and  Adeeb Javed extended that to 5-1 before Calverley hit back, only to be foiled by late efforts by Javed and Tawheed Ahmed.

In Division One, Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves are being dragged back into a relegation fight after a 3-1 defeat at Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds, with Brad Shorrocks on target for the second string.

Meanwhile, Fairbank United remain fifth in Division Two, despite a 5-1 victory at second-from-bottom Huddersfield Amateur.

Shoaib Hussain put the visitors ahead after half-an-hour following a fine Junaid Ali free-kick, and the latter made it 2-0 after good work by Hussain Iqbal and Akif Waseem.

The returning Bilal Saleem made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Shoaib Hussain was upended, and Amateur were finished off by an Ali brace, including a delightful chip.

In Division Three, a Ryan Wilks brace gave Morley Town Thirds a 2-1 victory at Leeds Modernians, who replied through Tom Cluderay.

The promotion drive of Drighlington Reserves has lost its impetus in Division Four, and they went down 5-2 at home to Morley Amateur, while Gildersome Spurs Old Boys are set to finish third behind Prospect and Leeds City Old Boys Thirds, despite a 4-0 home win over Beeston Juniors Reserves.

On target for Spurs were Ben Barstow, Darren Boote, Lucas Scott and substitute James Wilby.

Tyersal Reserves, who are fourth, won the big Bradford derby in Division Five, defeating second-placed visitors St Bede's Reserves 2-0.

Chris Gibbon and Nick Leach were on target in the second half.
