DRIGHLINGTON came out on top in an enthralling encounter against Athletico in the Yorkshire Amateur Premier Division, winning 4-3 away from home thanks to braces from Harvey Booth and Shane Sowden.

Drig raced into a two-goal lead, but Mohammed Qasim's double drew the home side level. Booth and Sowden restored the two-goal advantage in the second half though.

Saad Abbas pulled one back for Athletico but it was not enough. Third-placed Drig have only lost one of their 12 league fixtures and, with games in hand, are serious title contenders.

Farsley Celtic Juniors strengthened their title push by crushing Beeston Juniors 7-2. Celtic romped into a 6-0 lead at the break and, although Beeston regained some credibility in the second period, the result damages their relegation fight.

Grangefield OB secured a fine 2-0 win over leaders Leeds Medics. The Medics have stumbled recently, only taking one point from their last four matches.

Stanningley OB almost overcame a major personnel problem against Stanley United, but eventually slipped to a 1-0 away defeat. They only had nine players at kick-off, with a further man joining 20 minutes into the contest.

Stanningley stayed in the game thanks to top goalkeeping from Jamie Bull, but even he couldn't prevent Stanley's second-half winner.

In the Championship, Gildersome Spurs OB hammered Thornesians 7-2, a result which saw them go top of the league. Ben Keedy was the star man, bagging himself a hat-trick.

Horsforth St Margaret's toiled against ten-man Calverley United but secured the three points with a fine 85th minute free-kick from Greg Rowell.

Ian Horrocks was at the double as St Bedes beat Collingham Juniors OB 4-3 in a seesaw encounter. Collingham took the lead twice but could not hold on against fourth in the league. Juniors slip to second-bottom after their defeat.

Idle roared to a 3-1 win over Dewsbury Rangers, leaving them four points off leaders Ealandians Reserves but with three games in hand.

Farnley Sports were condemned to a bottom-two finish in Division Two after a crushing 5-1 home defeat against Sandal Wanderers, while Fairbank United showcased their inconsistency in a disappointing 1-1 draw at Garforth Crusaders.

Steve Wilkinson hit four for Prospect in Division Four as they smashed 10 past Dewsbury Rangers Reserves, while Calverley United Reserves also had a big win, beating Thornesians Reserves 5-0.

Gildersome's second-string also came out on top, beating Middleton Park 2-1.

Mick Dougan plundered five goals in Division Five as St Bede's obliterated a disappointing West End Park side 8-3.
