ABI Lee believes Bradford City Women made things much harder for themselves as they secured their place in the West Riding County Cup final.

The Bantams emerged 2-0 winners in Wednesday night’s semi-final against Farsley Celtic, a team two leagues below them.

But despite leaving it late to ensure victory, Lee took plenty of positives from the result.

“I think we made it very hard for ourselves. It wasn’t our best at all and we know that,” she admitted.

“But it was a good chance to blow off some cobwebs from the last game against Blackburn. due to games getting cancelled.

“As much as it wasn’t a good performance from us, we did well to pull out a result and get ourselves in the final.

“A massive positive as well was the ones who came on made a really good impact, which is great to see.”

Lee scored a stunning free-kick to break the deadlock late in the second half, finding the top-corner from 25 yards, and Laura Elford’s strike secured City’s passage to the final.

“At the end of the day it’s a cup game and, regardless of the opposition, you never know how a cup game can go – that showed on the night,” Lee continued.

“We have played them a few times before so knew it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.”

City’s opposition in the final will be a big local rival – either Guiseley Vixens or Leeds United, albeit the latter’s reserve team.

And Lee is excited for whoever the Bantams may be matched up with as they pursue a fifth successive regional title.

“Whoever we face it will always be a big game and occasion and I’m sure a good game to watch,” she said.

“You want to win that little bit more when it’s your rivals, but whoever we get we want to retain the cup. That’s the main thing.”
