YORKSHIRE Amateur League clubs are making an impact in external competitions.

Not only have Alwoodley became the first team from the league to reach the semi-finals of the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy after a 2-1 victory at Golcar United, but Drighlington are through to the last four of the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield.

Facing the sun and the wind in the first half, Drig were surprised to take the lead via Sam Thorpe but visitors Reckitts, from the Humber Premier League Premier Division, had levelled by half-time in what was a scrappy affair.

However, two goals in six second-half minutes just past the hour mark from Mark Beal and Harvey Booth gave Drig a 3-1 verdict.

Referee Mark Smith booked four Reckitts players and five from Drig, who now meet fellow Yorkshire Amateur League side Grangefield Old Boys in the last four.

There seems little doubt as to who Drig should keep an eye on in that encounter as Tom Micklethwaite-Charles hit five goals, including two penalties, in their 7-3 Premier Division victory at Farsley Celtic Juniors.

Yet the Celts had started the game in explosive fashion, leading 2-0 inside five minutes via Joe Firth and new signing Ricardo Browne.

Rhys Moore and Shane Gaunt got the others for Grangefield, who led 3-2 at half-time, with Said Osman reducing Farsley's deficit to 4-3.

Grangefield are now seventh, having overtaken Farsley, and look on course for a top-five finish.

Not for the first time this season, Morley Town fell by the odd goal - this time 5-4 athome to Beeston Juniors.

On target for Town were Matthew Palmer (2), Kevin Mackay and Adam Kenyon.

Calverley United are now outright leaders in the Championship Division after a 4-0 home win over depleted Leeds Independent, with Matty Wilson getting all the goals to take his seasonal tally to 31.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys had Steve Wales sent off in the 20th minute but should still have taken something from their home game against improving Leeds Medics & Dentists instead of losing 1-0.

St Bede's had to play top scorer Ian Horrocks in goal but won 2-1 at bottom side Wortley, despite trailing to a Gary Sunderland own goal.

Horrocks made a great save to keep the margin at 1-0 and moving Tawheed Ahmed up front in the second half to partner Adeed Javed paid dividends.

Ahmed equalised and, after other chances were missed, Javed got the winner via a left-footer into the top corner.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves got to half-time at 0-0 against Ealandians Reserves but lost 3-0 – and the margin could have been much greater as the visitors' finishing was woeful.

Idle are third after a 2-1 win at leaders Rothwell and are eyeing the title as they now only trail them by 11 points with five matches in hand.

An own goal put Idle ahead and a calm finish by Ryan Mitchell made it 2-0 before half-time.

However, great defending by Lee Cookson and Luke Chandler restricted Rothwell to one goal in the second half, leaving Rothwell, Idle, Leeds City Old Boys and Ealandians Reserves in a four-way fight for the crown.

Fairbank United trailed 1-0 at next-to-bottom Tyersal and missed a penalty but still had enough about them to win a Bradford derby 2-1 in Division Two.

Tom Allendar's sensational shot from halfway had put Tyersal ahead after ten minutes. United skipper Bilal Saleem then missed a spot kick and they continued to lay siege to Tyersal's goal in the second half.

However, they still needed debutant keeper Haris Khan to make two superb saves to keep them in it, before Saleem was successful with a penalty after a foul on 17-year-old Abdullah Lone.

Then Shoaib Hussain broke Tyersal hearts by rounding off a wonderful team goal late on for fifth-placed United.

Morley Town swapped places with Colton Athletic after winning 3-2 there, with Ben Howarth, Danny Sims and Ryan Wilks netting.

Howarth now has 22 goals, with Luke Henshaw on 27 and Chris Hick 21.

In Division Three, Morley Town Thirds lost 3-0 at Leeds City Old Boys Reserves, with Scott Mansell bagging a hat-trick as Town missed their chances.

Drighlington Reserves were without key defender Anthony Thompson, who has broken a leg playing five-a-side, and lost 4-1 at Shire Academics Thirds in Division Four. Danny Hill got the consolation goal.

Calverley United Reserves' players scored all the goals in a 2-1 win at Beeston Juniors, with Nylle Rosendale bagging a brace and Chris Holdsworth netting an own goal.

Former leaders Prospect lost 2-0 at home to under-rated Middleton Park.

St Bede's Reserves stayed second in Division Five, despite a 5-2 home win over North Leeds Reserves, with goals from Mick Dougan (3), Kyle Barron and Tom Mozley.

Tyersal Reserves are up to third after a 4-2 victory at West End Park, with the visitors' marksmen being Adi Lowther (2), Nick Leece and Tim McLaughlin (penalty) in a game of four spot-kicks – two for each side, with one each being missed.
