BRADFORD City Women are ready to cause a second successive upset this weekend, says goalkeeper Nat Saunders.

Fresh off the back of their 9-2 thrashing of pacesetters Middlesbrough, City welcome Blackburn Rovers tomorrow afternoon – another of the favourites for the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division title.

But Saunders is more than confident of a positive result after last week’s goal-fest.

“After the result against Middlesbrough, the girls have never been more confident,” she said.

“Knowing we can play how we did, and with another good week of training under our belts, it gives us no excuses to not go out and give it our all against Blackburn.

“We’ve caused one upset, and we’re ready to cause another this weekend.”

City have undoubtedly been helped by the return of key players from injury these last few weeks, with Sunday’s six-goal star Laura Elford a prime example.

Ellie White also netted on her first start for six weeks, while there was an assist from recently fit again Zoe Roberts.

Add to that a couple of mid-season signings, and things are finally starting to come together now for City, Saunders believes.

“Sunday was definitely the best result of the season so far, and the best we have played,” she said.

“I think all the hard work we have put in at training, and all the hard work from our management team, is finally paying off.”

The City stopper has noticed significant improvements at the back too, saying: “We are starting to play as a back line rather than individuals now.

“Communication has improved, which is key to us looking more solid, and we’ve also gained Lauren Jordinson (signed from Durham) in the number four role."

Saunders added: “I think we have been the dark horses in this league this season, and that’s something the other teams should be wary of.

“We are ready now to start getting the wins.”
