SKIPPER Shauna Legge is hoping to lift silverware in her first season with the armband after Bradford City Women breezed into the semi-finals of the West Riding County Cup.

The Bantams produced a clinical performance to brush aside tenth-tier Thackley 15-0 – Laura Elford stealing the show with seven goals, while Charlotte Stuart, Bryony Hanson and Hannah Campbell all scored twice.

An Abi Lee penalty and an own goal completed the scoring in City's fourth win on the bounce, a result which has left the team feeling positive going into the New Year after a difficult start to the season.

Now Legge wants to build on that and deliver success in the shape of silverware.

She said: "Going into the game we wanted to maintain the momentum we have been building in previous weeks and I think we did that. We kept the ball well and got a few goals under our belt.

"As I've mentioned before, the performances have been there all season, we just weren't getting the results.

"Now that the goals have been coming and we've been getting the wins, it shows our hard work has been paying off. We just need to carry that on after the Christmas break.

"It would be great to retain the cup and it's always good to win some silverware. The cup is currently in my front room, actually, and hopefully it will be staying there for another year.

"I've had two County Cup wins now and to have my third as captain would be great.

"I've worked hard at Bradford and progressed as a player from winning the cup for the first time up until now and hopefully that shows."

Struggling Leeds United were upset by Farsley Celtic to cause a big shock in the last eight, the lower-league outfit – finalists in 2015 – victorious on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

After Bradford beat FA Women's Premier League Northern Division One leaders Brighouse Town in the first round, that means only they and Guiseley remain in the competition from the FAWPL, making them the two main contenders for the trophy.

Legge says she would love to meet her former club the Vixens – league and local rivals – in this season's competition.

"Playing Guiseley is always an exciting game and would definitely make an interesting final," she said.
