ATHLETICO'S three-match wining run in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division was halted in no uncertain terms.

The sixth-placed hosts lost 4-0 at home to Stanley United, who not only extended their victory sequence to four matches but also climbed to second in the table – level on points with leaders Leeds Medics & Dentists, having played two matches more.

United's finishing made the difference as they scored twice in each half but the visiting keeper was one of their busiest players and Mazm Amhamed of Athletico was the best player on the pitch.

In the Championship Division, Mount St Mary's again ended up pointless after throwing away a two-goal lead, this time at St Bede's, whose victory helped their Christmas night out go with a bang.

Bede's' half-time team talk was simple: Take your chances. But St Mary's did not with theirs, missing not only a penalty but also a golden opportunity from six yards.

The comeback began with a special from the experienced Ian Horrocks, with the outside of his right boot, and a goal followed for debutant and man of the match Jermaine Moyce after Mount's keeper had parried a shot from Tawheed Ahmed.

After the St Mary's penalty miss, Michael Lickley's deflected shot found the back of the net, with Horrocks then completing his double and masterclass by rolling a defender and pinging the ball into the top corner.

Bede's are now fourth but some distance from the leading trio.

That is also the case for Fairbank United in Division Two after they dropped two more points in a 4-4 draw at home to Sandal Wanderers.

Having gone behind, United were 3-1 up by half-time – and made it 4-1 with a stunning goal from a half-cleared corner. But Sandal mounted a remarkable comeback to gain a point and move out of the relegation zone, although Fairbank were still dangerous on the counter.

Goals for a subdued Fairbank came from Shoaib Hussain (2), Razziq Ali and Bahlal Saleem.

Drighlington Reserves went top of Division Four after a 4-2 victory at Morley Amateur, most of whose players are over six foot.

Goals for Drig came from Harvey Brook (2), Jack Priestley (penalty) and Andy Punter but Prospect remain a threat as they are only two points behind with two games in hand.

Leeds City Old Boys Thirds are three points behind, also with two matches in hand.
