FAIRBANK United, who conceded two goals in four minutes, could not make it a double over Colton Athletic in Division Two of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

The Bradford side had won the home fixture in October, but couldn't make their possession count in the reverse fixture.

Athletic took the lead in the 12th minute when Josh Naylor floated in a free- kick for Chris Wayman to get his first goal of the season with a close-range volley.

Three minutes later, Luke Rudd side-footed home after superb counter-attacking play to stun United.

A third goal was disallowed for offside, but this seemed to breathe life into Fairbank, who started to get their game together.

On 29 minutes, they pulled a goal back when a rasping low shot found the bottom corner from Shoaib Hussain, and up to half-time, United looked the more dangerous, with Colton relieved to get to the break 2-1 ahead.

The second period belonged mainly to Fairbank, who had much more possession but didn't really create any clear-cut opportunities against Colton's excellent defence.

However, Colton created chances on the counter-attack and should have killed the game off, only for poor decision-making and sloppy finishing in the final third to make it a tense last 15 minutes.

Fairbank had a player dismissed late on, but still Hussain had a glorious opportunity to equalise, but blazed the ball over.

Colton, who defended resolutely, are now second, with United third, five points behind with two games in hand.
