CAMPION entertained Premier Division leaders Harrogate Town and earned a creditable 1-1 draw in the West Riding County FA Under-21 Floodlit League.

The home side started the match showing excellent fighting qualities, as they knew they would be in for a tough match, and forced Town's keeper into making good saves.

Midway through the first half, Campion finally broke the deadlock when Jack Holroyd scored with a far-post header.

The second half was evenly contested, with both teams failing to take chances, and the visitors threw everything at Campion in the last ten minutes.

Matt Keen's unbelievable save denied Town an equaliser but in the last minute, the visitors levelled with a tap-in from the unmarked Andrew Higgins.

Campion manager Louis Etienne said: "This was a tremendous effort from the lads, who deserved to take all three points. Cameron Green was rightly voted our man of the match."

Brighouse Town triumphed 2-0 at Thackley thanks to goals by Jack Normanton and Brad Birkhead.

Town threatened in the opening five minutes, when Birkhead's point-blank header well saved by Ollie Wright.

They made the breakthrough when Normanton outpaced the home defence before confidently converting the chance when one-on-one with Wright.

Brighouse sealed the points on the hour mark when Adam Dennison's corner found the unmarked Birkhead, who netted with a header.

Thackley are still looking for their first win of the season, while Brighouse jumped four places to tenth.

Town assistant manager Barry Thomas said: "The first half was even as far as half-chances went but our defence kept us in the game and we gradually took control in the second half."

Silsden slumped to a 5-0 defeat at i2i International Academy but remain fifth.

Meanwhile, the Yorkshire Amateur v Campion match was postponed because Amateur's groundsman wanted to protect the pitch for a first-team match.

Eccleshill United hammered Bradford Park Avenue 6-0 in the Northern Under-19 Alliance League.

The Eagles opened the scoring via Tom Storey's deflected shot and Kevin Pedro made it 2-0 after a solo run.

After half-time, two further goals were scored by Pedro, to complete his hat-trick, and Joe Storey added a brace, including him picking the ball up at the edge of his own penalty area before running 70 yards to score a fine individual goal.

Eccleshill manager Warren Rayner said: "This was our best all-round team performance of the season. I cannot speak too highly of the players".

Avenue counterpart Alex Meechan reflected: "It was disappointing, especially after starting the match competitively. My lads have to keep working hard and learn how to show more composure at times with the ball."
