BRADFORD City Women came out on top 3-0 in a crucial FA Women's Premier League clash with struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A second successive clean sheet and victory helped lift City up to ninth in the Northern Division, following West Brom's defeat to Leicester.

Midfielder Hannah Smith says the outcome was long overdue, following a string of disappointing and undeserved league results.

"The back-to-back wins have really lifted the team," said Smith.

"I think it's something we needed and something we deserved because, as we've said in previous games, the performances have been there but we just weren't taking our chances.

"On Sunday, we looked really good going forward and on the ball. We're starting to take those chances and we're looking positive going into next weekend.

"The hard work is starting to pay off now. It was good to get the three points and we're looking positive going into the next game."

City face something of an unknown this weekend, with Midlands Division side Long Eaton United their opposition in the SSE FA Women's Cup second round.

They go into the fixture riding a wave of confidence, given to them after goals from the returning Hannah Campbell, teenage debutant Arianne Parnham and a rocket by Smith at Wolves.

That was Smith's second goal in as many league games – but her focus is on an FA Cup adventure, not her scoring form.

She said: "I'm buzzing to have scored in the last two league games now. It's always nice to get a goal.

"But this weekend the main thing is for us not to get carried away and underestimate our opposition. I think that's really important. We've got to treat it like any other game and get a win."

City have fond memories of this competition. Just two years ago they were handed a plum tie against Super League outfit Yeovil Town, where they only lost 2-1.

This year, the big guns come in at the fourth-round stage and Smith is hoping to meet one of them.

She said: "I'd love a good FA Cup run. We want to get as far as we can in the competition and compete against some stronger teams.

"But we've got to get to that stage first and that starts with a win on Sunday."
