FARSLEY Celtic Juniors have notched a record-breaking score in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield.

Despite their being only a division between them in the Yorkshire Amateur League, top-flight Celtic defeated Championship Division St Bede's 17-1, with the Bradford club losing their goalkeeper, who was injured in the opening ten minutes.

In addition, Bede's did not get the rub of the green with the decisions, particularly on the first two Farsley goals.

It was 3-0 before Jazz Peltier got the visitors on the scoresheet, but they capitulated in the second half, conceding 13 unanswered goals and having a man sent off when the score was 9-1.

Among the goal-scorers for Farsley were Alex Gyte (6), leading scorer Danny Lyons (4), who was substituted at half-time, Joe Firth (2), Louis Surtees (2), goalkeeper Jordan Wright and Andy Shields.

Farsley welcome Colton Athletic in the quarter-finals on Saturday, January 27, and Celtic manager Barry Thirsk said: "Credit to Bede's, who kept working hard right to the final whistle.

"There were a couple of debatable decisions but Farsley played some super football and scored some quality goals.

"Our pace and passing was too much for Bede's, but I hope their goalkeeper is okay."

Also through are Drighlington, who won 8-0 at Beeston Juniors, who had one player sent off and five more booked, and Grangefield Old Boys, who triumphed 4-3 at Apollo.

Drighlington bounced back from their unexpected defeat against Wyke Wanderers with four goals in each half, the scorers being Sam Thorpe (3), Shane Sowden (2), Tom Farrar (penalty), Ryan Rhodes and Andy Punter as they booked a match against East Riding County League Reckitts.

Grangefield Old Boys were in good voice on the coach back after their 4-3 victory at Apollo, also from the East Riding County League, but they had to come from 3-1 down with 20 minutes left.

Penalty ace Nick Smith started the comeback with a spot-kick, and substitute Rhys O'Hare made it 3-3 with ten minutes left, Andy Doogan heading the winner with two minutes remaining.

Luke Hunter got the first-half goal for Grangefield, who are at North Riding League club Fishburn Park in the last eight, with the latter having beaten Morley Town 6-5 after extra-time.

In the Yorkshire Amateur League, Athletico's Premier Division match against St Nicholas was switched to the 3G pitch at Middleton, and St Nicks led 1-0 at half-time.

With both keepers in form, the 'hosts' made it 2-0 in the 75th minute, only to concede three goals in the last ten minutes, two from man of the match Mohammed Qasim, with the winner coming with two minutes left when Mohammed Ikraam's shot hit a post and went in off the keeper's back.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys remain top of the Championship Division after a 5-0 victory at basement boys Wortley.

It was only 1-0 at half-time, however, with the tally made up of efforts by Johnny Hunt (2), Connor Firth (2) and promising substitute Luke Ambler.

In Division One, home side Leeds Independent equalised in the 89th minute, only for Simon McQuiston to give Calverley United a 2-1 victory two minutes later that lifted them to second.

Matty Wilson had put United ahead in the first half down the slope when they generally wasted their passes.

Dewsbury Rangers are out of the bottom two after a 6-5 home win over Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves, who led 4-0 in the second half. Goals for the second string came from Danny Kemp (2), Brad Sharrocks, Neil Stevens and Joe Crampton.

Fairbank United stay second in Division Two after a 3-0 win at cellar dwellers Farnley Sports, although Fairbank's keeper Richard Marshall made two brilliant saves at 0-0.

Shaoib Hussain put the visitors ahead from the spot after Hussain Iqbal had been upended, Usman Amir making it 2-0 with a powerful header from a corner.

Iqbal's spectacular third goal finished Sports off.

Dewsbury Rangers Reserves came close to their first point of the season in Division Four, losing 2-1 at Calverley United Reserves to goals from Nylle Rosendale and Danny Sooltan, with Chris Coates also missing a penalty for the winners.

Middleton Park twice levelled at home to leaders Drighlington Reserves, but lost 3-2 to goals from James Snelgrove, Ashley Thompson and Brett Thompson.

Substitute Joseph Keen bagged a hat-trick for Prospect in their 7-2 home win over Shire Academics Thirds, winning the man of the match award, with the other goals coming from Kingsley Rowe-Depass (2), Nathan Bailey and Tristain Innes.

Prospect are second but will go top if they win their game in hand.
