DRIGHLINGTON, who are second in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division, just survived being giant-killed in the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

They were at Howden Clough, who are bottom of West Yorkshire League Division One, and could only draw 1-1 before winning a penalty shoot-out 4-3.

Drig could only finish one of several outstanding moves against Clough's inspired keeper. Sam Thorpe but the visitors ahead, only for the hosts to equalise in the 75th minute.

Grangefield Old Boys, who had a man sent off, went down 3-0 at home to Alwoodley in a fractious encounter.

Idle, who are in Division One, gave a good display at Newsome, who are two tiers higher, before bowing out 5-3 in a game that was shown live on Facebook.

The Bradford side led 3-2 at one stage but then Newsome's quality and fitness told. Man of the match Aaron Irving (2) and Ryan Mitchell netted for Idle.

In the West Riding County FA Trophy, Tyersal recovered from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 at home to Hunslet Club Reserves and then won the penalty shoot-out 3-2.

Wayne Wright (2) and Andy Pogson (2) were on target for Tyersal in normal time.

Shocks or near shocks were not confined to the cup and trophy as Athletico beat visitors Farsley Celtic Juniors 3-1 in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

The Bradford side were ninth in the table with a mere point before this clash against the sixth-placed defending champions but found their mojo in no uncertain terms.

Benefiting from fielding all of their main players for the first time, they led 2-0 before Danny Lyons replied with a header.

However, Athletico netted with the last kick of the match to confirm victory, their goals coming from Mohammed Qasim (2) and Mohammed Ikraam.

In the Championship Division, table-topping Calverley United beat next-to-bottom Leeds Medics & Dentists 3-0.

Hero for the hosts against their old rivals was new signing Matty Wilson, whose hat-trick took his tally to eight goals in six matches, but returning keeper Ben Waller also made a crucial save at 1-0.

St Bede's, who had skipper Ty Akram controversially dismissed, are up to third after a 3-1 victory on a poor pitch at Gildersome Spurs Old Boys.

Adeeb Jawad's hat-trick was the difference but he was pushed for the man of the match award by several of his team-mates. Ben Keedy, with a cool free-kick, netted for Spurs.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves' young guns went down 3-1 at home to Collegians in Division One but the victors say to watch for them in future. Joe Crampton got the late consolation goal.

Fairbank United are up to second in Division Two after a 4-2 triumph at early front-runners and last season's promotion rivals East Ardsley Wanderers.

Irfan Khan's shot from the edge of the centre circle, which gave United a 20th-minute lead, was precision itself after he spotted the keeper off his line.

Ten minutes later, however, they were 2-1 down and needed an equaliser by Shezad Ahmed before Wanderers had a man dismissed, United making them pay with goals by Khan – an inch-perfect free-kick – and super-sub Shoaib Hussain.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys, 6-1 winners at Thornesians Reserves, have points in the bag in Division Four, although they have played more games than their rivals. Goals for the winners came from Lucas Scott (2), Ben Barstow, James Wilby, substitute Luke Ambler and Mark Suffield.

Dewsbury Rangers are matching Thornesians with no points after a 10-1 home defeat against Prospect. On target for the winners were Dave Carrigan (4), Nathan Bailey (3), Jordan Farrell (2) and Kingsley Rowe-Depass.

An 84th-minute Mick Dougan goal was enough to give St Bede's victory, and third place, over Centralians in Division Five.
