DEFENDING champions Farsley Celtic Juniors have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

They followed their 5-4 home setback the previous week against Drighlington with a 3-0 reverse at Leeds Medics & Dentists, who have climbed to second.

Medics went ahead near the half-hour and survived a Celts response in the second half, including a wonder save by Ian Griffiths, before doubling their lead in the 63rd minute, adding a third seven minutes later.

Danny Lyons – last season's leading scorer for Farsley who is on the comeback trail after injury – struck the inside of a post, but that was as good as it got for the visitors, who dropped to seventh.

Grangefield Old Boys drew 2-2 at Morley Town, but lost Kristian Dacre, who was injured in scoring the opening goal.

Town netted either side of half-time, but Shane Gaunt – their new signing from Farnley Sports – equalised for Grangefield, with the assists coming from Rhys O'Hare and Rhys Moore.

Drighlington are up to third after a 5-1 home win over third-from-bottom Athletico, but the hosts, leading 3-0 at half-time, were over-confident in the second half, conceding a goal in a lacklustre 20-minute period.

On target for the home side were Shane Sowden (2), Josh Frankland (2) and Harvey Booth.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys' Championship Division fixture at home to Beeston was switched to St Anthony's, but it didn't do the new hosts much good as they lost 5-2.

Poor decisions by Beeston and good forward play from Gildersome made the difference, with Spurs' goals coming from George Taylor (2), Ben Keedy, Danny Norton and James Wilby.

Tempers frayed at times during the Calverley United v St Bede's clash, and both sides had a player sent off in the 63rd minute, with Calverley's coach also getting his marching orders.

Ben Cook, with an assist by Tom Westerman, gave Calverley a 1-0 half-time advantage, and they survived a 72nd-minute penalty, with Matthew Hodges saving brilliantly from Ian Horrocks.

This demoralised the visitors, and United doubled their lead via Matty Wilson in the 83rd minute before Bede's grabbed a goal with the last kick of the match from Michael Dougan.

In the preliminary round of the Marflitt Trophy, Premier Division Stanningley needed extra-time time before seeing off impressive First Division visitors Idle 4-1.

It was 1-1 at full-time before below-par Stanningley triumphed, the goals coming from John Ward (2), Tom Stewart and Dale McCormack.

Stanningley took the lead in the first half, but Idle levelled in the 68th minute, great work on the left by Adam Medley giving Ryan Mitchell the chance to score.

In Division One, Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves are off the mark after a 1-0 home win over Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds.

Celts manager Iain McDougle said: "I am very proud of all 11 lads, who cannot be faulted for their performance. They 'bled blue' and showed a fantastic attitude and team spirit."

Mattie Murchie's headed goal from a corner on 27 minutes separated the sides.

In Division Two, Fairbank United defeated East Ardsley Wanderers 2-1, finally getting a victory over the side who pipped them to the Division Three title last season.

Fairbank dominated the first half, but failed to create any clear-cut chances, and paid for it by going behind to a brilliant Bob Vickers goal.

The scorer quickly turned from saint to sinner by lashing out after he thought he was fouled and getting a red card.

Fairbank were level minutes later, with Irfan Khan picking out the top corner from a brilliantly-executed free-kick, and they carried that momentum into the second half, when Shoaib Hussain swiftly gave them the lead.

On 55 minutes, East Ardsley self destructed, with a two-footed lunge on Hussain right in front of the referee resulting in another red card, and United should really have won by more.

Tyersal, whose man of the match was Wayne Wright, triumphed 2-1 at Sandal Wanderers in a terrific clash, with Chris Gunson levelling for Tyersal with a penalty before Duguneh Kabba bagged the winner.

In Division Five, Prospect beat Methley United 7-0, courtesy of Abdallah Hayder (2), man of the match Tristian Innes (2), Andy Zenkovic (2) and Steve Thwaites, while Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves won 3-2 at Middleton Park thanks to Ian Dawson, Lucas Scott and Sam Clarke in a superb encounter.

Calverley United Reserves triumphed 4-1 at Thornesians Reserves, with Sam Wathen, Nylle Rosendale, Andrew Duckworth and Jedd Carter netting, and Drighlington Reserves were stronger than a youthful Leeds City Old Boys Thirds, with Matty Roller notching all three goals.
