BRADFORD City Women were left disappointed at leaders Huddersfield Town as they surrendered a two-goal midweek lead and had to settle for a point.

Goals from Charlotte Stuart and Ellie White had left the visitors in a comfortable position – but former Bantams player Sarah Danby pulled one back for Town before Brittany Sanderson bagged an 89th-minute equaliser.

The manner of Wednesday night's result made it a tough one to take, with midfielder Hannah Smith unable to see too many positives after her team had come out to win the game.

She said: "I think it's a disappointing result, to be fair. We all put 110 per cent in and we deserved to win at the end of it.

"They had two chances and scored two, so it's disappointing for us when we've all put that effort in."

Huddersfield may have topped the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division table but it was City on the front foot from the off, pressing high and pinning their hosts back.

The Terriers twice hit the woodwork in the opening exchanges but it was Bradford who took the lead before half-time when Stuart drove down the right wing and drilled a shot into the far bottom corner.

White raced through on goal after an hour and finished from a tight angle to make it 2-0 – but Danby's strike got Town back into the game five minutes later.

Huddersfield ended strongly as they pushed for an equaliser and Sanderson grabbed it in dramatic fashion as she neatly finished at the front post to salvage a point for her side.

Smith said: "I do think it's a good point away from home but at the end of the day we wanted three points.

"I think we were on top a lot, and I think we deserved to win, but we just didn't get what we wanted.

"I think we played better football but, like I said, they had two chances and scored two, from our mistakes as well."

Smith added: "We're building each game and we're going to keep building. We'll keep going at it, working hard in training and just putting effort in on game day, then we'll get those results we want.

"I think we're the best competition they've had. We've brought it out there to them and I think the rest of the teams in the league will realise that as well.

"We're out here to get wins, at the end of the day, and make a statement."

The City team are without a match this weekend.
