SKIPPER Shauna Legge was delighted as a depleted Bradford City Women side twice hit back against Fylde before beating them on penalties.

The Bantams were 2-0 down with five minutes remaining but took the FA Women's Premier League Cup tie to extra time, where they again had to come from behind.

Goalkeeper Nat Saunders then made three shoot-out saves before Katy Woodcock scored the winner in sudden death to take City through.

"We're just buzzing, to be honest," said Legge.

"We went into that game with a few injuries so people were in different positions, so it's just a great result.

"We were two down and we got that goal back and we were on top then and we kept pushing.

"Then it was 3-2 but we just looked positive all the time and it paid off."

The Bantams fell behind after just 13 minutes as Fylde broke down the right and the ball was squared for Sophie Charlton to finish.

Greek international Veatriki Sarri came off the bench to double that lead just past the hour mark, seemingly putting the result beyond City.

Yet substitutes Laura Elford and Ellie Olds provided impacts of their own, each scoring in the final five minutes of normal time to draw the game level and take it to added time.

Sarri dealt City another blow when she put Fylde back ahead early into the extra half an hour but Elford came up with the goods to equalise – before a red card ended an eventful afternoon for the striker.

It would not cost her team though, with Saunders saving three spot-kicks to take City into the next round.

"We showed great character to come back not just once, but twice," said Saunders.

"It's a great thing in the game. You don't see it often, especially in the women's, and especially being two down as well."

Legge was full of praise for the City keeper as she said: "What can you say, got to be man of the match, hasn't she?

"She kept us in it and then to save so many penalties, it's just unbelievable."

Having failed to win their opening two league games, with defeat at Leicester and a draw against Nottingham Forest, Legge is now looking for her team to build on this result.

She said: "We'll take this into training this week and we push on to next weekend. It's all looking good."
