BAILDON Trinity Athletic goalkeeper Dave Naylor was voted man of the match as his team won the Wharfedale & District FA Cup final on penalties.

A closely-contested game against Pool at Nethermoor, the home of National League club Guiseley, finished 1-1 before Baildon took the shoot-out 2-1.

Pool were favourites as the higher-ranked team but Trinity turned the form table on its head after their opponents had taken a 30th-minute lead.

Baildon drew level with a bullet header from Graham Carney which took the tie into extra-time, although there were no further goals.

Andrew Radosevic edged Baildon ahead with his spot-kick and Pool then missed their first. Dan Jowett netted again for Trinity but team-mate Elliott Moody shot over the bar and Lee Mathers saw his effort saved.

But with Pool missing their own penalties, Baildon ran out the winners as Naylor proved the hero with some outstanding saves.

Field Reserves bowed out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup as they lost their semi-final against Meltham Athletic. The tie was decided on penalties after a 2-2 draw, with Meltham winning 5-4.

A two-goal interval deficit was turned round by goals from Nicky Doherty and Glyn Hirst but Ben Baker missed a penalty in the shoot-out as Meltham held their nerve.

Meanwhile, West Yorkshire League domestic action saw Field cement their position of third in the Premier Division as they beat Sherburn White Rose 3-0.

Field's John Penn had a penalty saved in a scrappy first half before Danny Summers fired his team ahead from 25 yards.

Dan Broadway increased the lead with a close-range effort and Lewis Forsythe sealed the win when his header looped over the Sherburn keeper.

Wyke Wanderers concluded their Division One campaign with a 1-0 loss against Huddersfield Amateurs.

Club secretary Dave Ryan said: "We finished the season on a low by losing to a solitary goal but on another day we could have won comfortably because we hit the crossbar and post several times during the match.

"It has been a season of regrouping after being relegated from the Premier Division but a seventh-place finished is okay."
