BAILDON Trinity Athletic are through to the final of the Wharfedale & District FA Challenge Cup after defeating West Riding County Amateur League opponents Ventus-Yeadon Celtic 2-0.

West Yorkshire League side Athletic dominated from the start and nearly took the lead when Louis France found himself one on one with the Ventus goalkeeper but saw his shot hit a post.

However, Baildon kept up the pressure and were rewarded just before half-time when another corner was cleared to the edge of the box, from where Andrew Radosevic volleyed a shot into the bottom corner.

Baildon had to soak up some pressure in the second half but striker Ben Craven broke free to finish calmly and put the tie to bed.

Athletic spokesman Danny Milner said: "We played well in a hard-fought match that saw us progress to the final against Pool, to be played at Guiseley on Monday, May 1 (11am)."

Pool won their semi-final 2-0 against holders Ilkley Town with goals from Scott Firth and Temilada Ajimoko.

In a mid-table Division One match, Wyke Wanderers beat Whitkirk Wanderers 4-0.

Wyke took the lead after five minutes when Terry Ryan scored his first goal for the club with a close-range effort, following good work by Matt Conway.

The front two of Conway and Karl Fawcett were too much for Whitkirk and Conway added a second goal and Fawcett a third with a far-post header.

With Wyke playing their best football for some time, Fawcett grabbed his second before half-time and the striking duo should have added to their tally in the second half.

The midfield quartet of Paulo Lewandoski, Chris Davis, Joseph Walshe and Ryan gave fine performances but Fawcett shaded the man-of-the-match award.

Wanderers hosted Leeds Modernians in a midweek match and lost 1-0.

On a bumpy pitch with the wind playing havoc, Wanderers should have got something from the game.

Trying to play proper football proved difficult but Conway had a good chance when he chipped the goalkeeper but saw his effort hit a post, with the ball bobbling along the line before the keeper retrieved it.

A Fawcett header went just wide when he was well positioned but Wyke just could not find a breakthrough, while Modernians scored with their only real chance.

Field secured a point in a 1-1 draw against Knaresborough Town in the Premier Division.

The Bradford club found themselves a goal behind following a free-kick but Field equalised just before the half-time break following a good cross from Cameron McGovern that was headed back across the goal by Daryl Leach for Mark Bett to smash the ball into the net.

Field assistant manager Barry Dunne said: "There was some good football played by both teams but few chances were created by either in the second half and the match petered out for a draw."

Wyke Wanderers Reserves lost 5-1 to East End Park Reserves in Alliance Division One.

Wyke did themselves no favours when they gave away a needless penalty midway through the first half and East End dominated the second, going 5-0 in front before Joe Sagar scored a consolation late on.

Wanderers secretary Dave Ryan said: "We gave a lacklustre performance but we had lots of players missing through injuries."
