IT TOOK a moment of magic from Joe Firth to decide Farsley Celtic Juniors' proverbial 'six-pointer' at home to Premier Division rivals Stanley United in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

With the scores tied at 2-2 in the second half, Celtic player Firth ran at the defence from 40 yards out and beat two defenders before finishing in style.

United had first use of the wind on a pitch that was much narrower than their own ground but wasted some half-chances and went behind to a Danny Lyons goal from Louis Surtees' cross.

Said Osman's persistence also led to a goal but Stanley equalised both times in the first half before Firth's second-half winner.

Leaders Celtic, who have three matches left, have 41 points, while Stanley United have 34 and Leeds Medics & Dentists 33, both with four games left.

Grangefield Old Boys climbed a place to eighth after a 2-1 victory at fatigued Alwoodley.

The result was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests, however, with Matt Tomlinson, Andy Kenyon and young Rhys O'Hare outstanding for the visitors.

Alwoodley took the lead in the 15th minute but substitute Tomlinson's 20-yard run and cross enabled Grant Jackson to volley home from 15 yards in the 32nd minute.

The winner came in the 57th minute, with Jackson returning the compliment for Tomlinson to score from the edge of the area.

Championship Division leaders Drighlington won 3-0 to gain promotion at Morley Town, the only team who can now catch them.

The hosts held their own against the Wheatley Cup finalists until the 70th minute, when Brett Thompson's low drive sneaked in at the far post past unsighted keeper Scott Sanderson.

Sam Thorpe then scored direct from a disputed corner seven minutes later and Shane Sowden got the third in the 85th minute with a chip from just outside the box.

Drig are eight points clear of Leeds Medics & Dentists and ten in front of Morley, who, like Drig, have four matches left, so three more points will give Drig the title.

Danny Norton gave depleted prospective Division One champions Gildersome Spurs Old Boys the lead in the first half at Huddersfield YMCA but they conceded replies in the 70th and 89th minutes.

Gildersome, still six points ahead of second-placed St Bede's, can now be caught by third-placed Horsforth St Margaret's but their vastly superior goal difference should still hand them the title.

Division Two champions Idle drew their player positions out of a hat in their last game of the season but still won 3-1 at ring-rusty Wheelwright Old Boys, who have decided not to resign from the league after numerous problems but could still have points deducted for unplayed fixtures.

Idle's scorers were Luke Gray, Ryan Mitchell and Aaron Irving as they stretched their lead to 12 points.

Fairbank United, promoted as Division Three runners-up behind East Ardsley Wanderers, defeated third-bottom Churwell Lions 6-0 at Dixons Academy.

The in-form Shoaib Hussain converted Hassan Iqbal's excellent low cross for the only goal of the first half but United exploded into life in the second half, with Hussain's cross being brilliantly headed home by Mahmadu Dambe.

Minutes later, captain Usman Amir opened his account for the season, meeting a free-kick from Iqbal with a bullet header to put the game to bed. Iqbal netted the fourth and fifth before Dambe completed his brace.
