DEFENDING champions Farsley Celtic Juniors have increased their lead to four points in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

Juniors won 5-2 at Grangefield Old Boys, but they only led 1-0 at half-time via Craig Farrand, who is still not 100 per cent fit.

Grangefield twice equalised, although the Andy Kenyon goal that made it 2-2 was allegedly punched into the net.

However, the hosts eventually tired and were finished off by three goals in the final 25 minutes, second-half goals for Farsley coming from Joe Firth, Louis Surtees, Danny Lyons and Josh Maskell.

Second-placed Stanley United have a game in hand but third-placed Leeds Medics & Dentists have played the same number of games as Farsley but are five points adrift.

Calverley United, who have five under-18s in their squad, consolidated their position in the Championship Division, after promotion last season, with a 5-2 home victory over already-relegated Alwoodley Reserves.

Scorers for Calverley were Stephen Wells (2), who has relished his return to Victoria Park from Farsley Celtic Juniors, Tom Atkins, Josh Debenham and Chris Holdsworth.

Gildersome Spurs have been promoted from Division One after a 5-2 home win over second-placed St Bede's.

Spurs dominated the first 20 minutes without scoring and the next 20 minutes were shared before the hosts took a controversial lead with an offside goal, and doubled it two minutes later.

Bede's showed more intensity in the second half and levelled via makeshift left back and man of the match Nathan Bailey and Nick Scullion.

However, Spurs then got a breakaway goal, and St Bede's had an equaliser ruled out before Gildersome scored a superb team goal to make it 4-2, and then netted an even better individual effort.

Goals for Gildersome came from Johnny Hunt (2), Ben Keedy, Steve Wales and Conor Firth.

Division Two champions Idle crushed already relegated Old Centralians 6-0, with efforts from Aaron Irving (3), Jack Strudwick, Ryan Mitchell and Tom Simonett.

Irving is a contender for the division's Golden Boot as he has 33 goals.
