IDLE are celebrating after sealing the Division Two championship in their first season in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

It was not easy, however, as hosts Leeds City Old Boys are vying for promotion too.

On an immaculate pitch at Adel, Idle were trailing 1-0 at the interval to a Dom Taylor goal and although his side missed two further chances in the first half, he made it 2-0 in the second.

Slack defending then allowed Idle star striker Aaron Irving to lob the home defence and he also slotted home a through-ball to level matters.

Tom Simonett eventually edged Idle ahead after a deflected shot landed at his feet – and Jack Strudwick sealed a 4-2 victory with a goal from distance past a by now stand-in keeper.

Leeds City need to win two of their last three matches to also earn promotion.

Championship leaders Drighlington put themselves seven points clear of Morley Town with a 5-2 home victory over Collingham Juniors Old Boys, who shuffled their pack as it was their last game of the season.

On target for Drig were leading scorer Shane Sowden (2), Ryan Rhodes, Ben Small and Sam Thorpe.

Grangefield Old Boys Reserves, rock bottom of Division One, lost 7-2 at home to Garforth Rangers, while the promotion equation for Fairbank United is four points from four matches in Division Three after their 4-4 draw at home to Shire Academics Reserves in a mini epic.

Second-placed United trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes but levelled with a Bilal Saleem penalty and predatory play by Shoaib Hussain.

Shire scored again five minutes into the second half, Hussain Iqbal equalising, but it looked like it might not be Fairbank's day after Saleem missed a penalty and Shire then converted one of their won.

Yet United managed a fourth goal to share the spoils and are seven points behind leaders East Ardsley Wanderers with two games in hand.

Drighlington Reserves maintained their improvement in the second half of the Division Five season with a 4-2 home victory over cellar-dwellers North Leeds Reserves.

Declan Wilkinson (3) and Johnny Lakin netted for Drighlington, who remain fifth, although North Leeds' defeat ensured safety for Woodkirk Valley Reserves.

St Bede's Reserves scored the first goal via Ian Horrocks and the last through Mick Dougan but conceded five in between at home to Collegians in the Supplementary Cup.
