HAVING drawn 0-0 last season as holders, the Yorkshire Amateur League retained the Jerry Hildersley Trophy in style, defeating the Amateur Football Combination London - one of the biggest football leagues in Europe - 8-1 at Old Bealonians in Redbridge.

Despite only having about 40 per cent possession, the Yorkshire Amateur League founded their victory on rapid counter attack and clinical finishing.

Although the visitors had to survive two nervy periods, they led 5-0 at half-time and were a credit overall to the league and the white rose.

Goal-scorers for the Yorkshire Amateur League were Joe Firth (2), Louis Surtees (2), Josh Maskill, Josh Whiteley, Danny Lyons and Jimmy Greenhough.

In the under-21 clash which preceded the main encounter, the Amateur Football Combination London won 4-1, scoring twice in the opening ten minutes and only conceding to Leeds Medics & Dentists defender Ikedi Eruchie.

In the league, leaders Drighlington scored twice in the second half to win a tough Championship Division clash 4-2 at Wortley.

Brad Duxbury, Sam Thorpe, Shane Sowden and Brett Thompson (penalty) were on target for Drig, who lead Morley Town by four points.

Visitors Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves led Horsforth St Margaret's 2-1 at half-time in Division One via Callum Morris and Ben Wilson but lost 6-2 to make it 12 games without a win.

Horsforth doubles for Greg Rowell and Jack Watson were supplemented by Callum Walker and Jake Williams (penalty) as Horsforth try to make up an 18-point deficit with six games in hand on second-placed St Bede's.

Idle cemented their lead in Division Two with a 1-0 victory at third-placed Ealandians Reserves, the prolific Aaron Irving getting the only goal in the second minute.

The Bradford club can now only be overtaken by Leeds City Old Boys, but are favourites to not only gain promotion but win the title.

Fairbank United missed a hatful of chances in the first half but still won 3-1 at Thornesians Reserves in Division Three.

Shoaib Hussain opened the scoring in the first half, heading home a pin point cross, and Bilal Saleem extended the lead in the second half by heading home a corner.

Thornesians, beaten 16-1 the previous week, pulled a goal back and were unlucky not to equalise before Faris Hussain put the game to bed, despite some outstanding saves by Paul Hawes.

Drighlington Reserves did not have their shooting boots on at home to Horsforth St Margaret's Thirds in Division Five, missing three good chances and one outstanding opportunity in the opening 20 minutes against ten men.

It was 0-0 at half-time and Horsforth grabbed two early second-half goals. Joao Viegas halved the deficit but they were then locked out as St Margaret's made it 3-1.

There was a second-half goal glut in the Supplementary Cup, where hosts St Bede's Reserves defeated Morley Town Thirds 5-3 after the interval score was 1-1.

Bede's scorers were Michael Dougan, Steve Drake, Carl Lomax, Daniel Burke and an own goal.
