GUISELEY Vixens' march toward promotion from Northern Division One of the FA Women's Premier League gathered pace with a 2-0 win over Chorley that lifted them back to the top on goal difference from Hull City with three games in hand.

First-half goals from Sarah Danby and Liv Thackray were enough to preserve the Vixens' unbeaten record and leave them with a clear target ahead of them as they prepare for this weekend's trip to relegation-threatened Crewe Alexandra.

Second-placed Hull have a tough trans-Pennine trip to Chorley – but even if they win their maximum points tally would be 55 and a victory for Guiseley at Crewe tomorrow would leave them on 43 and, with their superior goal difference, just three wins from their last seven games would secure the title.

A superb second half of the season has seen Brighouse Town, without a game last week, consolidate their position in this division and, with games in hand on the clubs immediately above them, a win at home to Blackpool Wren Rovers would leave them with a real chance of a top-six finish.

With Guiseley poised to rejoin Bradford City and Huddersfield Town in the top flight next season, and Farsley Celtic needing only a win at home to Westella & Willerby tomorrow to take the North East Regional League Southern Division title, there is clearly a flourishing women's football scene in West Yorkshire.

In the West Riding County League, Bradford Park Avenue dealt a double-whammy to their Premier Division rivals as a surprise 4-2 win over second-placed Tingley Athletic both ended their opponents' title hopes and killed off any chance of Ossett Town avoiding a place in the bottom two.

Avenue twice came from behind with goals from Kirsty Russell and Nic Chamberlain before leading scorer Nat Bell and recent signing Becky Teale added two more in the last quarter to see off Tingley.

Avenue are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Farsley Celtic Development in the Supplementary Cup at Throstle Nest.

Brighouse Athletic, without a game this week, saw their 3-0 win at Hemsworth keep hopes of the runners-up spot alive in this division.

Silsden, whose game with champions elect Leeds Medics & Dentists was postponed, go to bottom club Battyeford still hoping to secure a top-half finish.
