AFTER three more under-18s featured for the reserves on Sunday, the future of Bradford City Women’s Football Club looks as bright as ever.

Sixteen-year-old Amy Wood was the first to make the grade two weeks ago, and Sunday saw Emily McNulty, Jessica Dunlop and Sophie Moulden all follow in her footsteps in a narrow 1-0 loss to leaders Huddersfield.

And with the teenagers thoroughly impressing, more chances are expected to come their way as the reserves take on Blackburn this weekend.

“Having this clear pathway from juniors to seniors is significant for the club as we strive forward,” said first team player-manager and under-18s coach Charlotte Stuart.

“I think it gives the young girls coming through great confidence and something to aim for, as they know that hard work and persistence pays off.”

Stuart was unable to watch the trio of debutants last weekend as she instead oversaw the first team’s last minute defeat to Nottingham Forest.

But after a tough day at the office, she could at least come home to good news after hearing about how the youngsters got on.

“I'm not going to lie I had a sleepless night on Saturday knowing the girls would be involved and that I wasn't going to be there,” she said. “I can now understand how parents feel on the sideline!

“I have coached three of the girls for the past four years so as you can imagine I feel a bit protective over them.

“But I received glowing reports on their performances and they certainly did themselves and me proud.”

The reserves’ good form has slumped lately, seeing them win just one of their last six encounters.

So there’s no better time for the teenagers to stake their claim for a place in the team, as they continue to take their chances with both hands.
