HAVING lost three of their first six matches in the Spen Valley League this season, Athletico have gone unbeaten in their last nine matches to help them climb off the foot of the Premier Division.
Admittedly five of those games have been in the Spen Valley Memorial Trophy (four wins and a draw) but the three wins and a draw in the league have meant they are now challenging Dewsbury West Side for second place.
Athletico's latest league victory was by 4-0 at new basement side Savile Youth, with goals coming from Mohammed Ikraam (2), Hasaan Ahmed and Abdul Ghani.
Only three games beat the weather and the other two were in the First Division, with Norfolk triumphing 4-3 at improving Howden Clough to move from fourth to third.
On the mark for Norfolk were Zaffran Khan, Ismail Loonat, Moosa Raje and Karim Bhatti, with Corey Starkey, Shane Thornton and Jack Scott replying.
Unbeaten runaway leaders George Healey, who have only dropped four points via two draws, defeated next-to-bottom visitors Dewsbury West Side Reserves 7-2.
Luke Newsome (3), Dom Carr, Matty Parkinson, Olly Mitchell and Lewis Boddy were on target for the front-runners, with Irfan Ali and Ovais Zahoor getting the consolations.
