GUISELEY Vixens find themselves battling against the clock in their bid to regain a top-flight place in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division.

With seven months of the season already gone, the Vixens find themselves having completed just half of their Division One fixtures.

A home game against Blackpool Wren Rovers tomorrow will give them a chance to maintain the pressure on new leaders Hull City, although the weather forecast is once again less than encouraging.

Postponements have hit third-placed Guiseley harder than most, leaving them with four games in hand on Hull and six on Chorley, yet they are still unbeaten and only four points off the summit.

They will climb to second with just a point from the Blackpool game as Chorley, surprisingly beaten by lowly Brighouse Town in their last outing, have a blank week.

Brighouse showed they can rise to the occasion in a fine Women's FA Cup run this season but league form has been inconsistent, although they seemed to take to the 3G pitch at the Bradford Academy in their last fixture.

An early goal from Chorley threatened to upset Town's plans but they hit back to lead 2-1 at the break and although the visitors did get a second 20 minutes from time, Brighouse collected all three points thanks to goals from Cara Mahoney, Jodie Redgrave and Charlotte Proud.

A trip to Liverpool Marshall Feds promises to be a tough one for Brighouse this weekend, the Merseysiders having lost just twice this season, but early-season relegation fears are fading fast for the Calderdale outfit.

In the Northern Reserve Division, the match between bottom club Brighouse and Bradford City failed to beat the weather. But there is a real derby air in tomorrow's games as City entertain Guiseley Vixens and Brighouse are at home to Huddersfield Town, with fingers crossed for better luck this week.

Farsley Celtic lost their 100 per cent record in the North East Regional League Southern Division when they were surprisingly beaten 3-1 at Altofts, although they remain six points clear of Sheffield Wednesday at the top and this week are at home to Doncaster Belles.

In the West Riding County League, Bradford Park Avenue moved up a place in the Premier Division without playing thanks to Silsden's 1-0 win over Hemsworth.

Avenue have a chance to climb further away from the relegation zone tomorrow when they welcome a Brayton Belles side still smarting from a surprise defeat at home to second-bottom Ossett Town.

Brighouse Athletic's outside title chances effectively disappeared with a 1-0 defeat at Mirfield side Battyeford SC.
