WEST Yorkshire League Division One leaders Hartshead showed their strength in defeating Wyke Wanderers 5-1 – despite having a man sent off after a poor challenge.
Hartshead regrouped well and went ahead from a free-kick. Wyke enjoyed most of the possession but looked suspect in defence and another error gave their opponents a 2-0 lead.
The second half began badly for Wanderers as the leaders capitalised on a mistake to make it 3-0 but Wyke then had a better spell.
Gavin Turner pulled a goal back but coughing up possession too easily in midfield gave Hartshead the opportunity to score a fourth and they added a fifth late on.
Wyke secretary Dave Ryan said: "Hartshead were stronger all across the pitch and defended well but silly mistakes are costing us vital points, so we need to improve quickly if we are to mount a promotion challenge."
