GOALKEEPER Matt Keen made a key save as Thackley Reserves won 2-0 at local rivals Liversedge Reserves in the Lancashire League.

After a goalless first half, young Andy McHugh opened the scoring before Sedge were given the opportunity to draw level when they were awarded a controversial penalty.

The linesman took a couple of minutes to convince the referee there had been an offence in the area but Keen then made a fine save from Vaughan Redford's spot-kick.

The Dennyboys made the game safe with ten minutes remaining when Callum Padgett got his head to Joe Keen's cross and powered the ball into the net.

Liversedge secretary John Hewitt said: "It was a hard-fought match between two competitive teams that could have gone either way."

The victory lifted Thackley to within a point of leaders Yorkshire Amateur Reserves but they have played two games more than their Leeds-based neighbours.
