WYKE Wanderers, who had to field a makeshift team due to injuries, bowed out of the West Yorkshire League's League Cup in emphatic fashion as they were beaten 6-1 at Ilkley Town.

A mistake led to Ilkley taking the lead but Wyke responded with some good football.

However, another error allowed Ilkley to increase their lead.

Wanderers worked hard and saw their claims for a penalty turned down and straight away, Town went up to the other end and scored a third goal.

Wyke were punished in the second half by another three goals before Matt Conway scored a consolation goal.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves were hammered 11-0 at home to Beeston St Anthony’s Reserves in Alliance Division One. For the second week running, Wyke struggled to field a team due to injuries and sickness, and ended up with five under-16 players, whose efforts were great but their inexperience also showed.

However, a good Beeston side were always going to be too strong in this one-sided match.

They were good moments from Wyke, whose goalkeeper Alex Whitson and man of the match Declan O’Regan both showed, especially O’Regan, who worked hard throughout.

Tom Ponter scored twice and Liam Lambert once as Field Reserves defeated Robin Hood Athletic Reserves 3-1.
