BRIGHOUSE Town, from Division One (North) of the FA Women's Premier League, were left carrying the West Yorkshire banner in the FA Women's Cup after they edged home 3-2 against Peterborough Northern Star in the first round.

Having led 3-0 at the break, with goals from Jodie Redgrave (2) and Kay Bamford, the game looked sewn up for Town. Yet the visitors hit back strongly in the second half to give them a scare.

Brighouse now travel to face Nottinghamshire side Long Eaton United, while Bradford City, Guiseley Vixens and Huddersfield Town are left to reflect on what might have been following 1-0 defeats at home to Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Derby County respectively.

Guiseley boss Glen Preston felt his side were not at their best but had still matched Premier League opponents Forest for the best part of the game.

Preston's side are still unbeaten at the head of Division One (North) but they have no game this week and will have to wait until the New Year before looking to maintain their title push.

Brighouse return to league action with a home game against third-placed Hull City tomorrow and are doubtless aware of their need to pick up points and pull away from the relegation zone.

In the West Riding County Women's League, Bradford Park Avenue, Ossett Town and Battyeford are separated by just one point at the foot of the Premier Division.

But first Avenue turn their attention to a delayed County Cup tie against Leeds side Amaranth and the chance to play Farsley Celtic in the next round.

Silsden picked up three good points from a 4-1 Premier Division win at Ossett Town and will be keen to repeat that in this weekend's return game.

Brighouse Athletic have a chance to close the gap on leaders Leeds Medics & Dentists when they meet.

Bradford City A, having played only four games in the First Division, try again tomorrow as they go to Leeds outfit Republica International. But having lost every game and managed to accumulate six penalty points, they are up against it this season.

Tyersal, with no points from their five games to date following a three-point deduction, hope to get back in the black with something from their home game against Wetherby Athletic.
