BRADFORD City Women are hoping it is third time lucky as they welcome Blackburn Rovers in the SSE FA Women’s Cup.

After two defeats in the league to the title favourites, some cup magic would go down a treat as the Bantams look to end Rovers’ 13-game winning run.

The previous 4-0 and 4-2 scorelines flattered Blackburn, with their manager, Gemma Donnelly, even admitting her side were fortunate in their last meeting.

“Last time we met them we did a really good job of staying composed mentally and playing our game,” said City defender Chelsie Stokes.

“The game plan tomorrow will be to play our game again and not be scared. We want to control the tempo.”

Player-Manager Charlotte Stuart sees no reason why a win is beyond her side’s capabilities either.

“Both games it’s been fine margins,” she said.

“Don’t get me wrong, they are a very good side, but they have been very lucky in both games."

City dominated their last meeting, but a quick counter-attack and dubious penalty saw them trail at the break.

They then went down to ten in the second half, which hampered any chance of a comeback.

But the Bantams go into this game in fine form, especially in terms of putting away their chances – something they didn’t do in that 4-2 loss.

As they pursue a third-successive victory, they are boosted by the return of attacking midfielder Jess Graham, who has been sidelined for two months.

Her availability cushions the blow of striker Lucy Sowerby’s injury as well as the absence of loanee Rachel Newborough, who has not been granted permission to play by parent club Doncaster Belles.

“We are looking forward to the challenge,” Stuart said. “You never know what might happen.”

Tomorrow's game is a 1pm kick-off at Eccleshill United FC.
